Sara Waxman:  There was a moment when you had an instinct, a sudden thought that you could change your life completely and be the woman you dreamed of becoming. When did that happen?

Kat Ostroumova: There was a time where I wanted to be in a corporate world; there was a time that I wanted to be an actress. Now I've become this women's wellness coach and hormonal imbalance specialist, and I believe this area is my calling and mission.

SW: And where were you when that moment in your life happened?

KO: In my doctor’s office at the age of 29. At 14 I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, an overactive thyroid. After numerous tests, the next step would be to do a radioactive iodine treatment. My condition morphed into hypothyroidism which is an under active thyroid. I started to gain weight uncontrollably; my hair started to fall out; I had very dry skin; irregular painful periods. I was told to just take my thyroid medicine. At the age of 29, I hit rock bottom.

SW: When you hit rock bottom, the only direction to go is up. You said to yourself “I do not want to be this way for the rest of my life, and I’m going to do something about it.” You began to search for a way to help yourself.

KO: I called myself a guinea pig. I started to try different approaches. I became obsessed with researching hormones and thyroid function, and to implement different strategies and different approaches to nutrition, trying out different foods, trying out different exercises. I hired a personal trainer and saw what works, what doesn't work. It's an actual mindset approach: Why are you doing this? What is that for? So, through lifestyle changes, nutrition, movement, natural vitamins and supplements, and a lot of research, I started to feel better within six months. Six months! And I still, to this day, can't believe it, because the struggle was so long, and here I was, just implementing lifestyle strategies—and I'm feeling better in six months.

SW: As you became stronger you coached yourself and created a program for yourself that included mind-body-spirit. You created your own private ecosystem in which you thrived. Tell me the main points of your routine—how you begin every day.

KO: I have a very strong morning routine because I believe the way you start your morning is how your entire day is going to go. Also, when you run your own business like I do, I need to be very disciplined in all areas of my life. I have interviews, I have speaking engagements, I have my consultation calls with my clients. I have my 1 on 1 clients constantly messaging me. At this point I'm not even just showing up for myself and my own health care, I'm also showing up for my clients because they're relying on me to help guide them, to help them thrive.

My morning routine starts off with positive affirmations, before I even look at my phone, and that grounds me and instills confidence in me to prep me for the day ahead. Something simple usually: I'm strong, I’m powerful, I'm beautiful, I'm enough and I'm going to handle anything today throws at me. I also drink one liter of water before anything else, no tea, no coffee, no pre-workout, because I do like to also get to the gym in the mornings. I do either a full workout which includes strength training followed by some sort of cardio, or just cardio if I'm pressed for time. Those three things need to happen first thing in the morning in order for me to feel like the best version of myself, to feel resilient, to regulate my nervous system, to be able to take on whatever that day throws at me in a cool and calm way.

SW:  How long do you spend on your Morning Routine?

KO: I spend about an hour and a half to two hours. It doesn't necessarily always need to be that for me because when I'm traveling, whether it's business or pleasure, I do cut it shorter so positive affirmations could be minimized. One litre of water—I just chug it down, in terms of movement even half an hour of walking on the treadmill or outside with maybe 5 minutes stretch, so that's about 45 minutes.

SW: You have mastered it against all odds—and now you invite others to join you on the journey through Kat International Wellness. This is on-line personal coaching that one can carry with them on their cell phone. So, you are always there with your clients. That is motivation to the nth degree.

KO: My vision in this business was born from pain, and turning my pain into purpose when I was able to take control of my journey and thrive. It has been eight years, and I feel way better now at 38 years old than when I started at 29.

I started to showcase my transformation-journey on my social media and went on to compete at a fitness competition in the United States. Women started to ask me, “How did you do it?” and “Can you help me as well?”

I saw a gap in the Health, Wellness and Fitness industry. We're told to just count your calories and go to the gym and workout more, but it is such a different ball game when it comes to women’s health, when it comes to women's hormones. I really wanted to empower women and to show them that if I can do this—a regular girl—an immigrant from Russia who came here when I was nine years old. If I can do this without knowing anything, you can also take control of your life. You can also thrive.

SW:  It seems you have a clear mission in your life.

KO: The mission of Kat international Wellness is to inspire and empower and guide women who are suffering with hormonal imbalances, to help them thrive with our proven custom strategies, and I wanted to take this online so that I can touch women on a global level.

SW: Let's say that I want to change my life; that I need the help you offer. How do I begin?

KO: Everything is 100% customized to each woman's lifestyle. The first thing would be a one-on-one free consultation. We talk about your life, your family, your biggest supporters, your stressors, your nutrition, your habits and your strengths and weaknesses, and the end goal of what is that best version of yourself. And then I walk backwards. I implement my strategies, and create a customized program to help you get to that point. We start working together, and this is where the real work begins.

We have our own App called Kat International Wellness App, and inside of this App you will have your personalized meal plan, grocery lists, water intake tracker, daily steps tracker, supplements and vitamins program, and of course a training program with workouts to follow as well. And the reason why you're able to take this everywhere in the world is obviously because it's an App, but also because it's so customized for you, and we work so closely one-on-one together. You are in constant communication with me so that I'm able to modify the program to fit the fact that maybe you’re traveling for business—and what is being served in those business meetings in terms of food? I help guide you on what to order and how to manage your nutrition while you’re away. If you're going to a resort and you're on vacation, what are the gym facilities? Maybe we need to do target exercises in the hotel room, just body-weight or resistance bands. It is customized to a point where you're able to handle any changes in your personal life and you're able to follow your wellness journey. The more you communicate with me, the more successful you are in your program.

SW: Do you speak to all your clients every day?

KO: I expect to hear from my clients on a daily basis. Daily accountability is key. When I stop hearing from you for one day—this is where I get concerned. Currently I have 205 clients on my App. However, I don't take more than 10 clients at a time for every specific intake, because obviously it takes me time to do a call with each client, get her on-boarded, make sure she understands what we're doing, and then the work begins.

SW: And do you have a good success rate?

KO: We have 100% success rate. Six hundred 100% successes. I've been blessed with the most incredible clients. When a client wants it and they're serious about it, they make it their priority no matter how hard it gets. There are hurdles along the way, absolutely. I have clients who have gotten into car accidents, clients who've gone through a divorce, or have had a death in the family. Because life happens. This isn't an addition into your life, this is implementation into your daily life and how do you tackle everything to still ensure that no matter what is going on around you, you're making yourself a priority. You are putting yourself first in order for you to be able to handle everything that is happening in your life.

SW:  Who are your clients?  Are they only adult women, men?

KO:  This is completely a woman-only-program. When I started, I actually trained men as well, but I very quickly realized that my calling is to empower women.

SW: May I ask the cost and the length of the program?

KO:  The cost is $4,299 for a 12-week program, let's say three months.

Kat Ostroumova

SW:  One week in a Wellness and Longevity resort will cost more than that. Not enough time to really develop habits.

KO: In three months, I think that anyone can create a habit. At the end of the three months, so many of my own people ask for another set. After the initial 12-week custom program, we have a subscription membership program where my clients can stay on for as long as they want to and the price drops down significantly. There's still accountability; there's still that guidance and support. The one-on-one coaching with the actual calls with me decreases quite a bit, but they also don't need it as much anymore. Now they have built those habits and that lifestyle. Now they just need a little bit more of that guidance from me and some accountability along the way. Some clients actually take to it right away, and those 12 weeks really change their lives around.

SW: How do your clients learn about Kat International Wellness?

KO: I have a lot of speaking engagements and I always put that out on my social media to say where I'm going to be. Some clients are in New Zealand, some of them are in Europe and U.S. so with these clients we just keep in touch over messaging.

SW: This program is absolutely not for people who casually want to lose 10 or 15 lbs. This is for people who have hit rock bottom like you did. It is an entire life changing transformation, and there is no going back. Kat is with you, right on your cell-phone in your pocket.
