Vacation skin. It’s the glow we exude on a relaxing day, with a beaming sun overhead, clouds too lazy to appear in the blue sky above the blue water, sipping piña colada by the poolside of an island resort, without deadlines or commitments other to choose which burger toppings, waffle or regular fries, and una cerveza or dos cervezas. That’s the skin we want.
However, bookending our bliss is the actual travel part of the trip. Waking up at an ungodly hour to stand in line at the airport, over-tired, under-slept, drinking overpriced bad coffee to pass the time before lugging our carry-on back in line to get onto a cramped plane; plunking down like a human accordion into an uncomfortable seat chair, contorting to the least awkward position, with knees pressed against a tray, while balancing a laptop and the last vestiges of that bad coffee, and then having to get up again, because the dream of sitting next to no one just crashed as someone with an oversized bag inelegantly hoists it over our heads while straddling us and squeezing by into their own seat, forcing us to reset all our fixings in a less perfect way than before, and then wait, slowly dehydrating in stale air, while recycled air blasts our faces.
The off-boarding ritual is clunky, angst-ridden, incomprehensibly stalled at every turn, and where is our luggage, and then finally, from amidst the dystopian wreckage of our confusion, we emerge, bullied by transit into a sea of humidity, followed by the polar vortex of the taxi’s air-conditioning. At journey’s end, jet-lagged, frustrated, looking as zombified as we feel, there’s the check-in, the search for the right elevator, the long walk to the hotel room at the other end of the complex, and finally, praise God, the key fob works, we drop everything without any care or will left in the tank, and collapse face-first onto the bed. We made it. But, our skin has taken a beating.
Here is what I do! To compensate for all the changes in state from home to hotel, I drink a glass of water, wash my face, and then apply Vintage Noon moisturizer mask. The difference in how my skin feels is immediate. It feels like a shield, totally immunized against air pollution, sweat and dehydration. The difference that I feel is night and day. My skin feels firm, glowing, healthy. I'm ready to paint the town red. This is my vacation skin.
I discovered Vintage Noon on recommendation from a friend as skincare for people who travel. While the makers of it haven’t reinvented the wheel, there really isn’t another brand on the market that addresses the barometric changes, temperature changes, humidity changes, air quality changes and travel stress on our skin.
It can be difficult, even off-putting to try to maintain a skincare routine while traveling. Multiple-products are cumbersome. Apply one product in the morning, another product at night, but only twice a week. It’s too much. Vintage Noon is one effective product. Simple. I can manage that.
A little goes a long way for strengthening the moisture-barrier and restoring balance to irritated, even sun-touched, sensitive skin. It’s not oily, not too creamy, not watery, just gentle and soothing. The formula is vegan, gluten-free, cruelty-free, alcohol-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free and fragrance-free. It’s Canadian-developed and owned. I feel totally safe and secure in using this whenever I feel I need it on my face and on my hands. It's my new must-have travel item.
As for my travel companion, she slips on her sandals, shakes up her bottle of Gilded Sands barrier-enhancing shimmering body oil as if she was making a Martini, applies a satiny, luminous lustre to her skin and, like the K-Pop star she aspires to be, you know she’s glowin', and gonna be, gonna be golden. Replenishing botanical oils like avocado, pumpkin seed, safflower and sunflower nourish and soften the skin. Rice bran and rosemary leaf extracts act as an antioxidant duo to soothe and defend against environmental stressors. Vitamins C and E combine to brighten and protect, and light-reflective mineral pigments provide a hydrating golden-hour glow.
Prior to our return flight, we both apply Vintage Noon to our face and hands, and feel completely protected from the elements in transit. With our skin nourished and radiant, we can now step off the plane looking like we just walked off a movie set, or came from a luxurious vacation.
